Industry Expertise
Fisher Maritime has almost fifty years of experience in providing attorneys, consultants, ship owners and shipyards with technical analyses, expert testimony, and support for marine, offshore and shipyard mediation, arbitration, and litigation. To find the service relevant to your needs, see below.
Marine Industry
We have experience with many different facets of the marine industry, including the shipboard, marine terminal, and shipyard portions of the industry. We handle matters ranging from personal injury, to product liability, to marine insurance matters, and more.
Tug-Barge Operations
We have experience with the myriad towed and towing vessels that one typically finds plying the waters, including tugboats, barges, ATBs, ITBs, and other towed equipment. We are also knowledgeable regarding the various towing modes, Regulatory Body requirements, meteorology, ship handling, etc.; all of which have been instrumental in our support of parties involved in tug-barge related cases.
Recreational Boating
We have analyzed numerous recreational boating casualties in the past years, including collisions, fires, falls, and injuries. Usually those matters are settled or resolved before going to trial.
Casualties
We are regularly called upon to analyze the causes of marine casualties, accidents, and personal injuries involving seamen, vessels, terminals, and shipyards, and then act as expert witnesses in litigation throughout the US and Canada (including collisions, allisions, groundings, explosions, and sinkings).
Personal Injury
When a maritime-related personal injury occurs (including Jones Act matters), we can provide you the benefit of our experience in defending or asserting claims resulting from improper design, construction, operation, or training.
Asbestos
We routinely deal with questions of the potential of exposure of shipboard personnel (merchant mariners and service members, including those from the US Navy, Coast Guard, and Army) and shipyard employees to asbestos.
Product Liability
Fisher Maritime has extensive experience in analyzing and preventing maritime-related product liability. Our work has involved both plaintiffs and defendants, small and large vessels, and has included the organization of seminars and the development of a book on the topic.
Environmental Issues
We have prepared several analyses about the presence of asbestos, PCBs, lead, and heavy metals at shipyard and ship-scrapping sites to address industrial hygiene issues. These analyses can be used as a basis for assigning or recovering clean-up costs.
